The Super Real graphic novel was just reviewed by ComicsBulletin.com
And it's another rave review:
SUPER REAL graphic novel:
Jason Martin's self published series comes to it's dramatic conclusion within the book's 232 pages of story - collecting the previously published first five issues, and two new over-sized issues - all in one cover-to-cover, genre bending, sensory offending, genetically enhanced reality TV tale!
Critically favored, and co-starring guest artists like Jim Mahfood, and Josh Howard, Super Real is the next big thing... to add to your bookshelf!!!
Pick it up starting Wednesday 3/10 in comic book shops via Diamond Order Code NOV090909
And view more info HERE, and previews HERE
The issue 7 finale in single issue form is available now in the website store in PDF download, with print version to follow next week.
The graphic novel should hit comic book shops by the second week of March at the latest, and will be available from SRG.com and Amazon.com by the last week of February.
We'll update all the information on the site as soon as we have things confirmed.
Additionally, the final individual issue of the series, issue number 7 - which contains the final 28 pages of the series for $4.99, will be available in the same time frame (in print, and digitally).
Stay tuned!
The graphic novel is now resolicited with Diamond for comic book shops this January, and open for order once more. Please confirm with your retailer that they have the book on order, with the new DIAMOND ORDER CODE NOV09 0909, listed in the November Previews catalog, in shops 10/28/09.
For those looking to pick up the new material in comic book format, the previously announced 48 page Super Real Cast Change Special will be replaced with Super Real issue number 6 (with a shift in numbering to reflect the number of issues published overall, counting the previous 3 issues from regular series, and 2 special issues), which is now 56 pages at the same $6.99 cover price, and available 10/28/09 directly from SRG via the website STORE in both print and digital/pdf, as well as comic book shops via Haven Distribution with order code SUPRSUP101.
With a final 32 page issue, number 7, closing out the series this December.
The Super Real graphic novel, and final issue special, (both now scheduled to release in September), were featured in an interview on ComicBookResources.com with creator and publisher Jason Martin.

The book is 240+ Sasquatch themed pages from over 40 indy creators, and features an all new creation from me that pushes the limits of the theme and is also a lot of fun (while being a bit of a departure from what I've done in Super Real). There are some amazing creators and stories included in this massive book, so please be sure and check it out.

Super Real vs. the Comic Book Industry Special #1
Diamond Order Codes:
Just announced today, an all new limited edition cover is being offered in addition to the previously solicited regular covers (from creator Jason Martin, and guest contributor Jim Mahfood) for the special that’s due in shops later this month. Retailers can now order the limited to 500 edition cover featuring the stylish artwork of Mr. Howard (Dead@17, Lost Books of Eve) who previously turned in a cover for Super Real’s debut issue, and returns now for this new number 1 with an eye-popping cover in the theme of the special, featuring his most popular character, Nara from Dead@17, squaring off against one from Super Real.
Super Real continues to grab critical acclaim, recently receiving the COMICS BUYER’S GUIDE Indy Pick of the Month, and thought what better way to get even more comic fans’ attention than by taking on the comic book industry itself! This all-out-action special does just that, featuring five brand new stories from the series creator showcasing the genetically enhanced reality TV cast facing off against familiar faces from the comic book industry, and offering guest artwork by Jim Mahfood (Grrl Scouts, Stupid Comics) as well as hot emerging industry talent! Whether you tune in for the book’s trademark quirky humor, the funky flavor Jim Mahfood brings, the comic book icon beat-downs, or the new Josh Howard cover art, it’s a great jumping on point for new readers!

Super Real vs. The Comic Book Industry is a brand new issue number 1 featuring five stories written by series creator Jason Martin, spotlighting each character and their comic book style enhancements facing off against stand-ins for comic book superstars in an all-out action extravaganza! This is a great chance to check out the offbeat mash up of comic book and pop culture in this irreverent, funny, and sexy series. Each explosive story features artwork by a different guest creator, including featured contributor Jim Mahfood (Oni Press, Image Comics, Marvel Comics), who says about the special, ”I had a blast drawing it, it’s really fun stuff!”
Super Real’s first 3 issues have all been well received by fans, and especially critics, with many citing it as one of the best independently published comics available today (Ain’t It Cool News, Newsarama, The Comics Review) and others proclaiming creator Jason Martin an “Artist to keep an eye on in 2006” (Comic Fanatic). Now’s the time to tune in and check out the buzz on Super Real, with 30 pages of in your face comic book icon beat-downs that are sure to have fans talking!
The special is available for preorder via comic shops and the December Previews catalog (page 320):
Another great review, this time Dan Head makes Super Real issue 3 his recommended title in this week's COMICS YOU SHOULD BE READING column on PaperbackReader.com
From the review: I'd recommend it to readers who like smart comics that don't take themselves too seriously. And to readers who like sex. Personally, I think that encompasses just about everybody."

Our latest issue is reviewed in the YOUR INDY WEEKLY column on the industries biggest website, Newsarama.com!
Super Real issue 3 gets 3 and 1/2 stars out of four!
"Overall, Super Real continues its journey as being a must read superhero indy and as we watch these five ‘contestants’ dealing with their new powers while being overseen by the most powerful men in America, we all know that sooner or later this is all going to come to a head. It’s the journey getting there that makes it fun and Martin has no problem bringing the excitement to each and every Super Real book."

When the third issue of Super Real hits shops on 9/27, it not only debuts the much anticipated genetic enhancements and super hero themed jumpsuits for our reality show cast, but it’s also a great jumping on point for new readers to this wild series. To highlight the exciting changes within the pages, the book will feature an eye-popping new cover from Tokyopop’s Felipe Smith (MBQ). The new incentive cover is in addition to the previously announced 1 in 4 variant cover by Hector Sevilla (LULLABY), and continues the series of covers featuring hot emerging talent in the industry!
Super Real is the story of five young reality TV participants who each sign million dollar contracts to become genetically enhanced, and find out what happens when they go beyond reality. The book has received widespread praise from reviewers, such as; "SUPER REAL continues to be one of the better indie books (hell, books period) out there and I’m looking forward to reading the next issue." from AintItCool.com, or “the real world intersects Martin's cartoony world to interesting effect." Comic Buyers Guide. Even receiving TheComicFanatic.com’s “artist to watch in ‘06” for creator Jason Martin.
Those looking for the new incentive cover should check with their retailer for details.

Super Real Graphics.com will be unveiling an all new flash animation trailer for it’s comic book, Super Real, at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con International. The movie style trailer will bring the concept of the book to life for all to see at the Super Real table in the small press pavilion (space S 16)! Come down and check out the new trailer all week at the show, or if you can’t make it, the trailer can be seen on the book’s website - superrealgraphics.com - starting the week following the show.
Creator Jason Martin writes, “Having an animated trailer is always something I’ve wanted to do, the book is so visual, it’s hard to describe it to the thousands of con goers every show, so now through the magic of flash technology (and the hard work of BigBackComics.com), the book can speak for itself! I’m really excited to give an opportunity to easily see what the book has to offer!” Super Real Graphics.com will also be selling a limited edition preview book of upcoming titles exclusively at the show.
Super Real is the story of five reality show participants who sign million dollar contracts to become genetically enhanced, and it has been met with wide spread critical and fan success, even in today’s tough independent comic book market. Not only is Super Real number 1 featured on the YOUR INDY WEEKLY column on NEWSARAMA.com today, but columnist Ryan McLelland raves about the book!
From the feature:
"Super Real #1 does well to carve a niche in the rarely seen market of superhero indy comic books. It certainly is a book for those who love superheroes but want to get away from those everyday Marvel/DC archetypes. Throw in a beautiful variant cover by Dead@17’s Josh Howard and my lone gripe about this first issue can only be that I want issue two. Like NOW! One can only hope that Super Real will be an indy comic book staple for years to come."

Super Real, the self-published debut from creator Jason Martin, kicks off this November in comic shops everywhere, and is currently open for order through the September edition of Diamond Previews. It was always the publisher’s intent to offer customers and retailers the most value possible for their dollar, which is why printing in color, and with a higher page-count story were always a priority. It just so happens, that through some good fortune with printer negotiations, SueprRealGraphics.com can now offer this additional 4 page feature at no extra cost. Now every copy of the book, whether it’s the regular cover by Jason Martin, or the variant cover by Josh Howard, will contain the variant artwork as an over-sized mid-section extra!

Overall the review is favorable, but they do have some concerns, all of which I feel will be adequately addressed in future issues!

As mentioned before, the first double-sized issue of Super Real is complete, and work on distribution has now begun. In an effort to maximize the release, which is brutal on any publisher, especially a small press self-publisher such as myself, I've begun to send the book out to the comic industry review community, hopefully obtaining some good words to help the launch.
Taken from the review:
"Super Real seems to be breaking at the seams with the excitement that Martin puts into his work. There's a ridiculous amount of personality in every line of his manga-influenced artwork and in the way he presents his characters and stories.
This was a really wonderfully fun comic with nice art and a very shocking ending. I really enjoyed it."
And in response to the overall story, and new final act:
"I kind of dropped the book, shocked, when finishing it. I love the feeling that you never quite know what will happen, and Martin definitely delivers that."

SUPER REAL GRAPHIC NOVEL RESCHEDULED, NEW ISSUE AVAILABLE NOW!
Production of the new material for the series finale ran long, with about 80 new pages instead of the intended 48 being created... so the graphic novel was rescheduled with Diamond Distribution from July to January, and the new final issue special has been broken into two issues, the first of which is available now.

SUPER REAL ISSUE 3 REVIEWED IN THE COMICSWAITINGROOM.COM!
"Martin’s “reality TV meets comics” series sort of settles in to a comfort zone with issue three. The previous two issues focused more on introducing the parody elements to the story and establishing the characters. Now, with his pieces on the board, the creator can show exactly how the characters’ powers work, how they’re going to interact as a “team”, and in moving the story forward a bit."

"Martin’s definitely got a knack for dialogue, and his artistic style is a fairly unique hybrid of manga influences and traditional American comics...
Fans put off by the exaggerated anatomy on the cover should take note: Martin knows, and this series is putting that knowledge to good use. Check it out."

"SUPER REAL continues to be one of the better indie books (hell, books period) out there and I’m looking forward to reading the next issue."

TheComicFanatic.com Overall Grade = A+
"Super Real #2 is quite simply a lot of fun, and this issue sets the stage for even more fun. Go ahead and let Martin’s amazing artwork reel you in. (After all, it is some of the most original art to hit the scene since Josh Howard stunned the world with Dead@17!)"

ComicBookReview.net 4 out of 5 stars
"Again, Jason has really knocked things out of the ball park in terms of a professional and enjoyable story. You should really give this series a try."

WONDERCON THIS WEEKEND!
NEW - 2006 SKETCHBOOK!
I'm very excited to exhibit at my first ever WONDERCON convention, not only to meet and see thousands of bay area comic fans, or because I haven't been to San Francisco in many years, but also because it's put on by the fine folks at Comic-Con International, the same group that organizes the industry's biggest and best con, San Diego Comic-Con!
Super Real will be set up in the Small Press section - table SP1. We'll have all three covers for issue one, a preview of issue two (due out in a few short weeks), and the all new 2006 Super Real Sketchbook!
The 2006 SUPER REAL SKETCHBOOK
Last year I printed up a handful of Super Real sketchbooks, with never before available production art and sketches from the series, and they were a big hit, selling out after only 2 shows. So, this year I've created a new sketchbook with more never before seen artwork, including cover designs, guest pin ups and much more (they've even got a blank page for a hand sketch)!
They will debut at Wondercon, and then be available online and at this years cons.
While supplies last!

SUPER REAL REVIEWED BY THEFOURTHRAIL.COM
thefourthrail.com (just scroll down)
While I experienced no small amount of disappointment reading most of this week's crop of indy superheroes, Super Real #1 was an unexpected bright spot.
and
What will probably make most sit up and notice Super Real, though, is the artwork. If there's one common element found in self-published work, it's that ready for primetime artwork is a rarity, but Martin springs onto the scene almost fully formed, with an art style that will find a lot of favor with those who dig on guest cover artist Josh Howard.
6/11/05
NEWS AND NOTES

The books are 32 black and white pages of full story, and will retail for $3. There will be two cover versions (in a 1/4 split), one with my cover art, and one with the Josh Howard variant art. Both covers will differ slightly from the final version and have the San Diego Convention Special denoted on them!

As mentioned above, and in case you missed it around the site, I have confirmed my space at this years big show, San Diego Comic-Con International! It will be my third year exhibiting (that means Super Real made it's public debut almost 2 years ago!). We have some special plans cooked up for this years show, several in fact! There's the advance special editions of issue number one as mentioned above, there's the next news item below, and there's even a couple top secret things I'll announce shortly!
For the first time ever I'll be offering a sketchbook of my art, at this summer's big cons. The Super Real Sketchbook!

The sketchbook will be a collection of never before published production sketches, character designs, notes, cover treatments, and much more. All featuring the five sexy cast members from Super Real!

Did I say conventions, as in plural up above? I must have, because I've confirmed for the first time, Super Real will be appearing at the industries second biggest show, and Wizard's main event, Wizard World Chicago on August 4th thru 7th!

SUPER REAL REVIEWED ON BROKEN FRONTIER.COM!

Neil Figuracion writes:
"The main cast are all fairly distinct. We don’t necessarily know the characters just yet, but they do seem intriguing.
The art has an angular, relaxed feel. It’s almost like cartoon characters over the pixellated backgrounds of the first Tomb Raider game, or like Aeon Flux...
...Super Real could be entertaining for a season or two."
